You are NOT My ELDER, YOU are just OLD!
I have always been told to respect my elders by my parents and my culture. Now I find myself in my 50’s facing the same problems that have been staring at me for quite some time. Same problems, same inaction from the same generation. In other words meet the new boss same as the old boss.
As a matter of fact I even started a startup to address one of these problems the fucking baby boomers couldn’t find time for. Reducing student loan debt for future generations so those graduates could contribute and grow the new economy. All I needed was money for investment and a group of ELDERS to guide the process. Every single person from the baby boomer generation looked at me like I was mad. “Pay for someone else’s education? Never happen.” Was a common response. The irony of this was the fact that many of those saying this had their education paid for or heavily subsidized with federal money to subsidize college at state schools or via the GI Bill. Sure there were a few “hippies” in the university system who supported our idea and economics but they were a minority. My parents were and are not like this. As my father received one of his many chemo treatments he looked at me and said “I’m afraid your generation is going to lose money on me.” He was joking of course but at least he understood how the system worked and was grateful for having his healthcare (Medicare).
