To me being truly an atheist is simply accepting the unknown and finding comfort in the phrase "I don't know." In my younger days I would find myself in arguments with people of belief simply because they found it upsetting that I was more comfortable in the unknown than they were in their absolute knowledge. Science has answered many of the unknows in spite of religious knowledge but there are many unknowns left to be answered, or not.
