Philanthropy definition (noun: the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the generous donation of money to good causes.)

This may be the definition of philanthropy but I ask what the intent of the philanthropist is? This of course depends on the individual philanthropist. I pose this question because philanthropy is under a bit of scrutiny since it was announced that “philanthropists” raised over a billion dollars days after the fire of Notre Dame in Paris. This may be a form of philanthropy but is it really to “promote the welfare of others”?

I was in Los Angeles to promote Altrubanc to a forum. I had never been to LA before so as any tourist I wanted to see the city during the down time of the trip. One of the places we visited was the Getty Museum in the hills of LA. It is an incredible place to spend some time taking in the fine art and modern architecture and of course the incredible views. The view of the city overlooking the cactus garden is incredibly peaceful and serene. The Getty Museum or “The Getty” as it is known was the passion of J. Paul Getty, a philanthropist. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my time at “The Getty” I certainly did not feel it promoted the welfare of others.

These are a couple of examples of philanthropy and I will leave it up to you to judge their value.

Other examples include the cause driven philanthropies, the cure for cancer, ending hunger and education. Not to undermine the value for the cure for cancer or ending hunger but education stands above because without education there will be no cure for cancer and there will be no solution to solving hunger.

Education stands alone. It is the beginning of the process in producing solutions for the world’s problems. “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Education is generational far outliving the philanthropists who provide it. Education is the seed that will produce the harvest. “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”

Maybe it is time to relabel educational philanthropy seed philanthropy. There are those that support education with funds and buildings and I do not wish to diminish their efforts but the base metric of any education system is its students. They are the center of any educational philanthropy. Graduates are the desired outcome of any educational or seed philanthropy. Their graduation is the beginning of a series of events that will lead to the cure for cancer , ending hunger and much more. Altrubanc will provide a better way for philanthropists to plant those seeds of education, economic growth and leave behind a legacy worthy of their efforts.

Altrubanc is structured to help students reduce their student loan debt and motivates them to achieve graduation.

We are presently awaiting 501c3 approval for the Altrubanc.com Fund and will begin fundraising in the future. To learn more visit https://www.altrubanc.com/
