It's called bribery, my friend. You can call it campaign contributions, you can call it globalization, but what it definitely is one generation eating the world for their own selfishness. My Dad and Mom moved to the US in 1965. My Dad was a highly skilled lathes man and was invited by the state department to fill a position for a company in RI . After they went under, we moved to MASS where my Dad got a degree in mechanical engineering. We then moved to MN where he became the staff engineer. Then in the 90's he was tasked with moving all foundry work to China, Korea and India. I remember when he left that company, he said to me that he was ashamed because he was part of the mechanism, which was the beginning of the end of American technological and industrial dominance. And now the same generation of assholes are all pissed off because of the shitty service at Starbucks is really ruining their retirement experience. I even attempted for 12 years pushing a startup that would reduce student loan debt so people could pursue an education, and where did boomers put their money...fucking Blackrock! The world will be better off when the last boomer becomes worm dirt.
