If You Want a Future, Stop Kicking Down

I have been working with a number of millennials the last few years and a few things stand out. First, they seem to be the problem of all of America’s ills, at least according to baby boomers. In reality I have noticed that they are value orientated and somewhat frugal. It seems they want value for money, and I think this is a good thing.

I myself am a gen Xer. You know the guys that grew up in the 80’s. Ah yes the 80’s, where they hair was big, the music was mediocre and the sex was non existent due to the fear of AIDS. We were raised on a revamping of 1950’s America with daddy Regan telling us we were exceptional, and we believed it, for a while.

Then came the 90’s. We got NAFTA, globalization and our future was sold, exported and shipped abroad. And lets not forget the technology that was going to liberate our time through efficiency. Who could have seen a future where work and life are indistinguishable due to absolute connectivity and, massive productivity gains for the owners of this new world.

So here we are in 2021 and the millennials are about to become the largest demographic in America. And this is a good thing. It is good because millennials are a generation of cynical bare knuckle fighters. They have heard their grandparents tell them how great America used to be and it is their fault that is no longer.
