I was watching an interview in which Anderson Cooper was interviewing Carolyn Goodman, the mayor of Las Vegas. Needless to say Mayor Goodman wants the hotels/casinos reopened in Las Vegas so the city can get back to “normal”. Yes her position is both idiotic and selfish in the middle of an epidemic. I would rather focus on “normal” as she and many others are wishing to get back to.

Before we get to “normal” we must take a good look to evaluate what has happened and what is happening.

1. Pandemic hits.

2. Government once again shows the American public it has the inability to respond and under serves the needs of its citizens.

3. Economic uncertainty settles in (I believe this is the phase we are in now).

Now we come to tomorrow and the push for getting back to “normal”. To many Americans this process of event followed by inability of government to respond is starting to look very “normal” from their perspective. And they will remember when things get better. They will most likely change their spending habits bending toward frugality. Don’t think so? Look at how people emerged from the great depression. I am 53 and I remember mocking my grandparent’s frugality. Were they cheap? No, they just had no faith in the nation in which they lived.
