Facebook, please take your seat turbulence expected
Facebook has got a problem. Just one you ask? Well no, but now they’ve got one that may just be the end of them.
How does Facebook make money? Ads right? Wrong. Its ad data that is the core of every revenue stream. It all starts with data. Advertisers buy the data to target market Facebook users on and off Facebook. Yes Facebook sells the tools but again I say it still starts with user data. And it sells well because it is or should I say was pure. Advertisers could purchase that data information knowing it was based on truthful responses and interests of Facebook users.
Now Facebook has made it clear it will not monitor or fact check political ads on its platform? A policy that has played out in the public sphere this week with AOC and a gentleman who proved by example the new Facebook policy by running a fraudulent political ad and Facebook eventually removing the ad which is in direct violation of that policy. Then Facebook responded ad hoc implementing a new policy that you must be a “legitimate political figure” for the new policy. This in itself is an optics nightmare but it is not even close to the problem Facebook will face in the future.
